For today’s interview, our team caught up with Ahmet Engin Bayrak, Artifical Intelligence Specialist and Product Manager at Minder, a startup aiming to revolutionize the way people interact with the world through brainwave technology. The Turkish based company currently has 2 products, Mimik and MinDput. Mimik allows people to control the computer with their facial expressions or neck movements. MinDput lets users type short sentences or words–without using a keyboard or mouse–by analyzing brainwaves.

Tell us a little about what you and your company do
We are developing a software platform using brainwaves. We have solutions for neuromarketing, neurofeedback, and disabled people.
What’s the first thing you do at work every day?
Check all unread messages and create/manage my to-do list.
Who and what inspires you?
As a person Steve Jobs inspired me lot. Creating value to the world is my main inspiration.
How many emails do you get/reply to per day?
30-40
What was the hardest business decision you have ever had to make?
Changing the team and the focus of the team after 2 years.
If you could send a message to yourself in the past, before you started your business, what would it be?
Think more about globalization and monetization.
What would you say to someone who wants to start a business?
Passion and idea is very important but you need a team to execute your idea with your passion.
If you were to start all over again would you do anything differently?
Mistakes make me learn, I never regret them. I would do similar things with that knowledge. However, with my current knowledge I would start with more real life pain in the global domain.
Not including yours, which company or business do you admire the most?
Apples iPhone + App store business is the model that I like the most.
